China's National Tourism Day, which was first announced by the Chinese government in 2011, falls on May 19 each year, the date when XU Xiake, a famed travel writer in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) started writing his famous travel books.

This year's China National Tourism Day is themed as "Beautiful China, Happy Journey" and focused on the core objectives of deeply promoting mass tourism, exploring the development of green tourism, accelerating the cultivation of smart tourism, actively advocating civilized tourism, and promoting the deep integration of culture and tourism, according to LI Xiaoyong, an official from the ministry.

Shilin UGGp held promotional events to celebrate China Tourism Day and focused on cultural tourism.

A traditional folk song and dance performance was held inside the Geopark to promote Shilin’s unique ethnic culture to the visitors.
