It snowed on 22 January in Shilin County. The Shilin UGGp, covered with snow, was more attractive than usual. We were so excited not only because of the spectacular snow scenery but also we welcomed representatives of Shilin UGGp’s sister geopark, the Changshan Aspiring UGGp in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province on such a special day.  

After visiting the Tourist Center, the Major Stone Forest Scenic Area, the Minor Stone Forest Scenic Area and Bushao Hill Scenic Area, staff members of the Changshan Geopark got some knowledge about the long and complex geological evolution of Shilin UGGp and knew more about the practice of popular science education and interpretation system.

Staff from Shilin and Changshan had a meeting. Shen Biyun, deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shilin Geopark Administrative Bureau, introduced the history and building of Shilin UGGp over the past 20 years. Huang Jianshe, director of Changshan aspring UGGp validation work group, introduced the preparation and planning for the validation. Both geoparks discussed some issues concerning geoconservation, geopark management and marketing, and revalidation work, etc.
