Shilin UNESCO Global Geopark, located in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, enjoys typical subtropical plateau dry and wet monsoon climate. It is neither cold in winter nor hot in summer. Its abundant rain and sufficient sunlight create a region with dazzling biodiversity.

Naigu Stone Forest, covering an area of 11 km², is located in the northern part of the Shilin UGGp. Since the stone forests here mainly developed in dolomitic limestone, Naigu Stone Forest is dark gray in color. Here the stone pillars are thick and tall, looking like baronial castles on a hilltop, imposing and spectacular. “Naigu” means “ancient and black” in the local Yi language, but now it has something new and colorful.

Coreopsis Are in Full Blossom

Each autumn, coreopsis covering an area of 180 acres in Naigu Stone Forest, are in full blossom, creating a splendid flower sea. The plants, easy to grow and not particular about soil quality, usually grow in clumps and hold their daisy-like flowers on tall stems above the foliage, adding another attraction to the remarkable Naigu Stone Forest, which is of aesthetic value and outstanding scientific significance.

Blooming coreopsis flowers fill the air with fragrance and flocks of visitors are thronging to enjoy the amazing beauty. The pink sea of the flowers is a very popular scene with local residents, tourists from far and wide, especially with photographers, who are enthusiastic about pictures as the flowers show their clear pink colors.

Splendid Sea of Coreopsis

The Geopark planted coreopsis flowers as they bloom from September to November, which should be the best time for visitors during some major holidays such as Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day Holiday. During the Golden Week holiday, many young couples take their wedding pictures in the Naigu Stone Forest, where photographers are available free of charge.
