Shilin UGGp of Yunnan Province of China and Mudeungsan Area UGGp of Gwangju City of Korea signed cooperation agreement and established sisterhood relationship in April 2021. Representatives of the two geoparks could not conduct face-to-face signing ceremony and exchanges amid the pandemic of Coivd-19, therefore one side signed at the agreement and sent the official document to the other. The main contents of the agreement are exchanges of technical know-how and networking between the two geoparks through mutual visits and staff exchanges. The areas of cooperation include geopark management, revalidation, popular science dissemination, local community engagement, geotourism development, geological and nature conservation, personnel exchanges and mutual publicity of both geoparks, etc.
Shilin and Mudeungsan have established friendship and maintained close contact with each other in recent years. In October 2019, representative of Shilin was invited to participate in the 1st International Workshop on Metropolitan Global Geopark & the 3rd International Comprehensive Field Workshop on Geopark in Korea. In December 2019, representatives of Mudeungsan visited Shilin and carried out exchanges on geopark building. Our normal life was seriously affected with the outbreak of the pandemic of Coivd-19 in early 2020. It also had a negative effect on geoparks operation worldwide. Shilin and Mudeungsan sent greetings by email, bringing warmth and support to each other. Mudeungsan is the 14th sister geopark of Shilin UGGp. With the signing of the agreement, the friendship between the two geoparks has been greatly promoted. The two geoparks will continue to reinforce cooperation, learn from each other, share successful experience and achieve common development in geoparks.
